Montazah-Palace

Montazah Palace

Montazah Palace is in Alexandria, Egypt. This is an exceptional colonial palace with a historical background and the enchanting view of the Mediterranean coast. It was constructed in the later part of the 19th century by Khedive Abbas II and is done in a harmonious mixture of Moorish and Florentine designs. It sits on 370 acres of gardens. It was first built as a summer residence for the kings of Egypt, and the museum combined natural beauty with the sea, along with an interior full of lovely possessions and art that were part of the furniture. Nowadays, the Montazah Palace has been opened to the public and is a place that people hold incredibly dear for both its historical value as well as its breathtaking views.

History and Origin

History of the Montazah Palace in Alexandria, by the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, dates back to the late 19th century, with details more than comprehensive when it comes to its history.

Built for Khedive Abbas II

Montazah Palace was built at the end of the 19th century by Abbas II, the second-to-last king of Egypt belonging to the Muhammad Ali dynasty. It was mainly built as a king's residence pavilion and a lodge for hunting with the purpose of getting away from the fierce summer furnace of Cairo. The site selected was serenely beautiful on the waterfront near Alexandria, famous for its natural beauty and refreshing sea breezes.

Architecture and Process of Construction

Pietro Avoscani was in charge of designing the Montazah Palace. He was an Italian architect with a reputation as an experienced architect in fusing both the Moorish and Florentine architectural designs. The construction of the palace, which was state-of-the-art in design at the time it was put up, commenced in 1892 and went on for years. Attention to detail was given to every part of the arches, the domes, and all the other decorative details. Montazah Palace and Gardens
The palace was also surrounded by large gardens and well-kept grounds, offering a further aesthetic to the environment and a peaceful surrounding for the royal family.

Upon its completion in the early twentieth century, the Monatazh Palace immediately became the favorite get-away of several generations of Egyptian Royalty. Immediately after its construction, several generations of Egyptian Royalty had the palace as their favorite get-away place. Smell and a position overlooking the sea and the space gave the monarchies time to have a secret vacation out of the capital where they received guests, and conducted sittings of conferences with signatories at the same time having a good time engaging in activities like hunting and sailing.

Sophisticated Coastal Style

The Montazah Palace fits wonderfully into the serene coast of Alexandria, Egypt. It boasts both an aesthetic view of the Mediterranean Sea and an elegant architectural design. Let's discuss in detail how the palace is designed to take it quite high to the top peak of architectural sophistication:

Integration of the Moorish and Florentine Styles

The Montazah Palace was designed by Italian architect Pietro Avoscani during the 19th century, the peak of the Moorish and Florentine influence. The exterior look is through arches, colt interludes, and columns carved with complexity and geometric patterns, which are particularly a sign of Moorish design. Such a design creates a relationship or coordination between symmetry and magnificence befitting the fact that it is located at the coast and surrounded by verdant gardens.

Royal Layout and Framework

The architecture of Montazah Palace was planned in a way that served perfectly both its two purposes: as a royal residence and also as a retreat place during the burning summer of Alexandria. It was fabricated with lots of wings and courts based around central halls and venues for reception. In each wing—an arrangement made to admit light and breezes with the least possible discomfort to the royal occupants—an uninterrupted view of the sea in every direction is also conveniently obtainable.

Ornamental Accents and Interior Décor

Inside, the Montazah Palace is spectacularly gilded: lavished with the finest details; from reception rooms to private chambers, replete with elaborate chandeliers, floors made of marble, and stucco work on walls in evidence of the ability of craftsmen from Italy and this local region. The decorative elements of these typical designs are summarized by almost complex arabesques, thick with lots of floral ornament and Egypto-Islamic motif designs in cultural diversity—an aspect usually characteristic of late 19th-century Alexandria.

Shore Excursions offers you a great adventure you can't miss out on Alexandria to visit interesting places such as Montazah Palace, Qaitbay Castle, and the Serapeum in Pompey's Pillar.

Huge Gardens, Picture-Perfect Views

Boasting breezy seaside environs over the Mediterranean, Montazah Palace's terrain is generally 370 acres with huge gardens to visit. The properly manicured facades here feature many varieties of big-flowering trees and bushes for fragrance, like tall coconut palms, lowered beds of colorful flowers, and scented geraniums full of citrus trees. The greenery supplied here offers serenity, which, in conjunction with the beautiful background of the sea, creates a perfect setting.

Architectural Harmony and Serene Ambiance

The Montazah Palace gardens are designed in a way resonant with the building and surrounding coast. Visitors wander along curving pathways leading them to hushed pools, flowing fountains, and pergolas covered with climbing vines. From every step, there is a scenic view of the sea, superimposing potential for relaxation and reflection upon the lap of nature.

Rich History and Cultural Legacy

Although the natural beauty is unmissable, the gardens of Montazah Palace emanate from a source of historical and cultural heritage. Across the timespan that has lapsed, they have been preserved in a manner that they exhibit the taste and high life of the Royalty of Egypt. While the palace gardens in Alexandria are characterized by elements of European and Islamic garden designs, the richer cultural diversity of these gardens gives them their unique identity.

Cultural Celebrations

It will be a place where, in each of Montazah Palace events, manifested in different ways, all aspects of Alexandrian cultural and artistic heritage will be reflected. Its large and beautiful gardens will feature art exhibitions, music performances, and literature readings that portray the contributions of Egyptian Culture to the globe. Such events accordingly focus on visitors from worldwide as they serve as an exchange of cultures following it opens the world towards getting more attention to the vibrant cultural scene of the city of Alexandria.

Conservation and Educational Programs

The conservation of the Montazah Palace will consider the physical retention of the historical fabric of the monument and raise public awareness regarding the site's cultural importance. The efforts in preservation lay behind the large architectural structure and the grass-green gardens, which come along with an architectural structure. Continuous education and guided visits provide firsthand information concerning its history, design, and former royal users in a bid to sensitize the young generation to appreciate and cherishing the cultural history of Egypt.

Tourism and Economic Influence

Montazah Palace is among the hotels that help to build the tourism base of the city of Alexandria. It does a great deal in driving the curiosity of tourists willing to explore its grand configuration of ancient treasures and scenic gardens. These revenues go back into the economy through tourist spending that boosts businesses and creates jobs in the service and tourism sectors. Montazah Palace has been rising in the rank of Alexandria as a cultural capital for the greater part of the Mediterranean due to the great cultural importance of the place.

With its long history, magnificent view, and last impression, Montazah Palace is something that can still be amazing and venerated in value for age and, therefore, an eternal treasure for Alexandria.

I was referred by a friend to Eid Moawed. One of the guides who helped me plan by bespoke private itinerary for 10 days in Egypt. And no I did not regret it! During my journey with Eid, I was told by other guides that I am lucky to have him as my guide and wallahi it’s true.

Throughout my trip in Egypt, I met different guides, airport assistance and drivers at different cities and they are all lovely! As a solo female traveller, I was well taken care of!

Happy Egypt organised for our family (parents and children aged 16-21) a made-to-measure tour of Egypt.
We started after a day break on the red sea and were leaving from Cairo. Happy Egypt organised everything for us: schedule, transfers, hotels, visits, entries, … as well as a super friendly very knowledge and professional guide whose role in making our holiday amazing was undeniable.
The tour took into account our desire to have family time, but also see the sites when they would be quieter, to have explanations during the visits yet free time to also look at our own pace, and overall, all were met.
Boat was very small (as per our wishes) with a crew that could not have done more for us. Water always available in taxi, boat, etc. No hassle from anyone, just pure pleasure.

If we were to return, there is nothing we would change and we will recommend this company to any of our friends who plan such a holiday: big thank you from all of us.

Thank you Ahmed, thank you Mostafa.

We booked a tour in Dahabiya from Aswan to Luxor. It was gorgeous. The boat was only for us. The crew, Mahmud the manager among them, was very obliging, the food was fantastic and the guide Mahmoud was an excellent archaeologist, very didactic and patient. We had a wonderful time with him, enjoying every moment. He selected the better places to see everything, he answered any question we did and always in good mood. I recommend this experience. Probably we will repeat with another part of the family.

This was such a fun experience for my whole family. We were picked up early morning at 4:30 by the balloon company arranged by Ahmed our agency owner. What followed after that was a series of pickups and boat transfers on the Nile to go to the West Bank. The excitement was palpitating and we were in awe to see a collection of all hot air balloons getting ready to take off. It was an unforgettable experience to see the whole city and right at sunrise, the view was breathtaking. Am so glad we did this.

We were a group of eight, three couples and two friends. I started our planning the trip by getting quotes from several companies, but Ahmed was able to provide the best value for our group.
We started our trip in Cairo and we're met at the airport where our visas were already in his hands and he was able to walk us through one of the long lines out to our driver who took us to the Cairo Marriott (last year we stayed at Marriott Mena House with Pyramid views).
Saturday morning our driver Kareem and guide Yousseff took us to Giza Pyramid Complex, lunch and then the Eygpt Museum.
Sunday we toured Islamic and Coptic Cairo, then lunch and shopping at KhanKhalily bazaars.
Monday morning we flew to Luxor and we're met by our guide Mohammed Hasan. We toured Karnak Temple and then boarded our ship the MS Esmeralda to check in and have lunch. That evening we toured Luxor temple.
Over the next four nights we were impressed by the knowledge that our guide, Mohammed Hasan gave us during the tours of the West bank of Luxor, Valley of the
Kings, Hatshepsut Temple & Colossi of Memnon, Abu Simbel, Philadelphia Temple and Eygpt overall.
All of our group was impressed with the quality of service, tour schedule and most of all our guides.
Mohammed Hasan as an Egyptologist has 21 years of experience. One of the group members was in his third trip to Eygpt and said Mohammed was far superior than the other guides he had.
From start to end everything was coordinated very well by Ahmed the owner of the agency. We really enjoyed the mobile hotspots he provided because it helped to stay connected.
Can't wait for our next trip with them.

We had a private 3-day tour around Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel.
The organization was perfect and so was the guide, Mahmoud, who made sure we were enjoying it and provided many tips on places to visit and eat.
Highly recommended!
