All You Need to Know about Nubian Museum

Explore Egypt's Heritage: All You Need to Know About the Nubian Museum

Located in the center of Aswan, the Nubian Museum is a tribute to the rich and varied cultural legacy of Nubia, an ancient territory that formerly stretched from northern Sudan to the southern portion of Egypt. This museum showcases the rich legacy of one of the oldest cultures in Africa by taking visitors on an interactive journey into the depths of Nubian history, art, and civilization.

Beautifully crafted to fit in with the surrounding natural setting, the architecture of the Nubian Museum is a masterpiece in and of itself. The building's contemporary style, which drew inspiration from traditional Nubian architecture, encourages guests to peruse its vast holdings through a number of well-chosen exhibitions. These exhibitions have large arrays of artifacts that are used to explain the historical journey of the Nubians over centuries or millennia, from elegant ornaments and beautiful statues and art, to crude stone and ceramic tools. The surroundings upon which visitors set foot when entering the museum set the scene of the Nubian civilization. As soon as you step inside, the similarities to the layout of some Egyptian temples are intentional: the tour of Nubian history begins at the prehistoric level and continues through the Pharaonic, Roman, Islamic, and modern periods. The sections are in a logical order to ensure a good understanding of the social, economic, and cultural development processes that affected Nubia.

It goes without saying that the Nile River shocked great factors, as is also the case with the Nubian Museum. Taking these two examples we can emphasize the fact that the river was and still remains a central feature in the development of Nubian civilization, which served not only as a source of nourishment but also as a means for trade and cultural exchange. Comprising more interesting objects discovered during excavations, to give a fascinating insight into the old towns that used to exist on the shores of the Nile, the museum was a result of the flooding caused by the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
Here, it could be seen that, unlike other museums, the Nubian Museum improves the visiting experience by offering renditions of cultural performances, and other temporary exhibitions apart from permanent ones.

These social events mostly include religious talks, seminars, and occasions where Nubians play traditional music and dance where some informed history is taught. The museum also has a research facility and a display of books, which makes historians and enthusiasts of Nubian history and culture often convene in the museum.
The area in which the museum is located is also a good field trip for other exhibits other than the ones displayed. Several indigenous plants and conventional Nubian architectural designs take root in the well-condoned landscape gardens whose serenity enables visitors to embrace introspection and marvel at the creation’s marvel. The outside spaces are commonly presented with replicas of original ancient Nubian houses and structures, physically connecting modern tourists with the past.

Discover Nubian Culture: A Guide to Touring the Nubian Museum in Egypt

The exterior and interior designs of the architectural marvel leave visitors stunned, as they creatively combine a blend of traditional Nubian styles and modern state-of-art design. It is the structure that acts as the perfect epitome of the cultural journey to be had inside, and they are designed in Nubian elements architecture-wise.
Some of the exhibition displays over 3000 artifacts arranged in such a manner that they illustrate aspects of Nubian history, right from prehistoric times to the modern era. The offered collection is rather wide, and all the pieces are selected with a great demand in mind. A wide range of artifacts, including furniture, pottery, pottery vessels, furniture, tools, ornamental items, etc., will be showcased to the public to see as a representation of the everyday life in the ancient Nubians. One of the significant pieces of work is an arrangement of sculptures and stelae that displayed the muscular Nubian kings with their queens who once governed a vast kingdom on the Nile.
In addition, to these ancient relics, a notable section of the museum presents the music, dance, and, language uniqueness of the Nubians. Moreover, the circulation of memorable culture and tradition can be also illustrated by sharing examples of Nubian clothing and jewelry.
The museum also talks about the positive impact of constructing the Aswan High Dam in the 1960s by which several Nubian villages had to be submerged into the newly formed lake. It achieves this by highlighting a tragic episode in modern-day Nubian history, the plight of the relocated communities through pictures, documents, and testimonies on civilization.
Because the community wants others to appreciate and understand the history of the Nubians, they can often visit schools or have a series of presentations and classes for children and adults. These events may consist of lectures, fiscal demonstrations, and engagements in basic cultural activities.

I was referred by a friend to Eid Moawed. One of the guides who helped me plan by bespoke private itinerary for 10 days in Egypt. And no I did not regret it! During my journey with Eid, I was told by other guides that I am lucky to have him as my guide and wallahi it’s true.

Throughout my trip in Egypt, I met different guides, airport assistance and drivers at different cities and they are all lovely! As a solo female traveller, I was well taken care of!

Happy Egypt organised for our family (parents and children aged 16-21) a made-to-measure tour of Egypt.
We started after a day break on the red sea and were leaving from Cairo. Happy Egypt organised everything for us: schedule, transfers, hotels, visits, entries, … as well as a super friendly very knowledge and professional guide whose role in making our holiday amazing was undeniable.
The tour took into account our desire to have family time, but also see the sites when they would be quieter, to have explanations during the visits yet free time to also look at our own pace, and overall, all were met.
Boat was very small (as per our wishes) with a crew that could not have done more for us. Water always available in taxi, boat, etc. No hassle from anyone, just pure pleasure.

If we were to return, there is nothing we would change and we will recommend this company to any of our friends who plan such a holiday: big thank you from all of us.

Thank you Ahmed, thank you Mostafa.

We booked a tour in Dahabiya from Aswan to Luxor. It was gorgeous. The boat was only for us. The crew, Mahmud the manager among them, was very obliging, the food was fantastic and the guide Mahmoud was an excellent archaeologist, very didactic and patient. We had a wonderful time with him, enjoying every moment. He selected the better places to see everything, he answered any question we did and always in good mood. I recommend this experience. Probably we will repeat with another part of the family.

This was such a fun experience for my whole family. We were picked up early morning at 4:30 by the balloon company arranged by Ahmed our agency owner. What followed after that was a series of pickups and boat transfers on the Nile to go to the West Bank. The excitement was palpitating and we were in awe to see a collection of all hot air balloons getting ready to take off. It was an unforgettable experience to see the whole city and right at sunrise, the view was breathtaking. Am so glad we did this.

We were a group of eight, three couples and two friends. I started our planning the trip by getting quotes from several companies, but Ahmed was able to provide the best value for our group.
We started our trip in Cairo and we're met at the airport where our visas were already in his hands and he was able to walk us through one of the long lines out to our driver who took us to the Cairo Marriott (last year we stayed at Marriott Mena House with Pyramid views).
Saturday morning our driver Kareem and guide Yousseff took us to Giza Pyramid Complex, lunch and then the Eygpt Museum.
Sunday we toured Islamic and Coptic Cairo, then lunch and shopping at KhanKhalily bazaars.
Monday morning we flew to Luxor and we're met by our guide Mohammed Hasan. We toured Karnak Temple and then boarded our ship the MS Esmeralda to check in and have lunch. That evening we toured Luxor temple.
Over the next four nights we were impressed by the knowledge that our guide, Mohammed Hasan gave us during the tours of the West bank of Luxor, Valley of the
Kings, Hatshepsut Temple & Colossi of Memnon, Abu Simbel, Philadelphia Temple and Eygpt overall.
All of our group was impressed with the quality of service, tour schedule and most of all our guides.
Mohammed Hasan as an Egyptologist has 21 years of experience. One of the group members was in his third trip to Eygpt and said Mohammed was far superior than the other guides he had.
From start to end everything was coordinated very well by Ahmed the owner of the agency. We really enjoyed the mobile hotspots he provided because it helped to stay connected.
Can't wait for our next trip with them.

We had a private 3-day tour around Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel.
The organization was perfect and so was the guide, Mahmoud, who made sure we were enjoying it and provided many tips on places to visit and eat.
Highly recommended!
