Ben Ezra Synagogue: A Historical Gem in the Heart of Cairo
Just inside the bustling streets of Old Cairo, the Ben Ezra Synagogue holds much of the richness and...
Discover the two favorite cities of the pharaohs on this 2-day Egypt trip. The first day of your Egypt shore excursion begins with a drive to Cairo, where you will see the Pyramids of Giza, the mysterious Sphinx, and the Egyptian Museum, which houses artifacts from Ancient Egypt, including Tutankhamun's golden mask. Enjoy an overnight stay in Cairo, returning to Alexandria on the second day. Tour historic landmarks in Alexandria like the Roman Amphitheater, the Qaitbay Citadel, and the Library of Alexandria.
Upon arrival at Alexandria port, our Egyptologist will be waiting for your exit from the cruise exit gate with your name on a sign. From here, you will begin a private 2-day tour from Alexandria to Cairo. You'll be driven in style to Cairo in one of our modern, air-conditioned, and non-smoking vehicles.
Upon arrival in Cairo, your sightseeing tour will start at the Giza Plateau. You'll get the opportunity to view Cheops' Great Pyramid, know its history, and take nice photos beside this amazing pyramid with the help of a view guide. You will further have a chance to visit the second pyramid, which belongs to King Chefren, and the smallest of the three pyramids, belonging to King Mycerinus.
As you finish visiting Giza, you will see, at the lower level ground, the perplexing Great Sphinx surveying the Necropolis.
You can, if you wish, either explore the Valley Temple or the Mummification Temple of King Chefren. Have lunch at this cozy restaurant, then drive back to your Cairo hotel for approximately 2 hours to the Egyptian Museum—the world's most famous historical museum. More than 250,000 pieces of beautiful antiquities are at this place.
You are going to be astounded by the glorious treasure collection of Tutankhamun, which is displayed within the halls, as well as some of his golden and silver treasures, like his military chariots and gold mask. At the end of your day, the tour leader will accompany you to your Cairo hotel for the remaining part of the evening.
After breakfast at your hotel, start your 2-day trip to Cairo and Alexandria from Alexandria Port. You will be taken back from Cairo to Alexandria by an air-conditioned vehicle with your own guide and driver. You will visit the following during this excursion:
First on the way will be the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa. It is made up of three levels of tombs and chambers burrowed into the rock underground, showing the luxuriously decorated graves of a wealthy Romanized Egyptian family. Post this visit, proceed to view the only remaining column for the Roman Temple complex historically known as the Serapeum in Pompey's Pillar.
Finally, you will be taken to the Citadel of Qaitbey, built by the Mamluk rulers to save the Mediterranean coastline of Alexandria from the invading Ottomans. It stands on the exact site where once stood the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
You will also be enthralled by the Bibliotheca of Alexandria. This great establishment was an ancient equivalent of a national library and a think tank for studies and scientific research into the ancient world. It would attract the minds of the great learned individuals across the Mediterranean and beyond.
The Alexandria library takes its pride in the 8 million books housed within its walls; it's one of the most important, if not the most, modern undertakings of Alexandria. With its frontal along the seafront, it sincerely represents the light of learning slowly rising over the Mediterranean from Alexandria.
Your journey will also give you a stop at the Church of San Marco, which is one of the oldest churches in the African continent, and you'll get to the core of historic Alexandria, where you can take a stroll around the old town. Explore the local markets, which sell a wide variety of goods, including traditional Egyptian treats and sweets.
You should not forget to stroll around Mansheya, the oldest market district; try to cast a glance at the architecture influenced by local Baroque, Italian, and French styles. Do not also miss out on the traditional women's markets with their various products, such as Zan'et Elsetat.
