History Along the Nile in Luxor
For historians, archaeologists, and travelers, Luxor is still an attractive place to be; As it gives...
Upon this Safaga day trip to Luxor, guests will be given the chance to visit famous archaeological locations, including the Karnak Temple Complex, the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon. These very old monuments and temples are located in designated areas that reflect the resourceful history showing the culture of ancient civilizations with the view of their aged civilization.
Another greater view of towering columns, statues, and obelisks, all bound into one huge temple complex in the honor of god Amun, is the Karnak Temple Complex. Valley of the Kings where many Pharaohs were buried with elaborate tombs, including that of the famous Tutankhamun. Recently, Egyptologists have been rediscovering the amazing temple of Hatshepsut, a stunning example of ancient Egyptian architecture with its terraces and colonnades directly in the cliffs, and dedicated to the first great female pharaoh of the same name.
The last ones are the two gigantic Madison-like statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III at the entrance to the Theban necropolis, the Colossi of Memnon. These imposing monuments are a favorite point for tourist photographs, providing a glimpse into the splendor of ancient Egyptian art and architecture.
A day trip to Luxor from Safaga Port is the best way to relish the historical past and culture of ancient Egypt, and get a presence at some magnificent archaeological sites globally. You should not miss the chance to discover the luxuries of Luxor through this day trip from Safaga Port.
Your Safaga Port tour will be provided with a visit to two awe-inspiring sites in Luxor:
First, unlike most ancient Egyptian temples, Luxor Temple is not oriented on the east-west axis but toward Karnak Temple. The reason behind such a strange orientation lay in the fact that Luxor was the basic location for the Opet Festival celebration, one of the greatest religious festivals conducted in the land of the pharaohs. It featured grueling transportation of the images of Amun, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu from Karnak to Luxor Temple to join with the local god, Amenemopet.
You next stop at the Howard Carter House, the actual residence of the legendary archaeologist. On November 4, 1922, Carter finally made a breakthrough that would lead him to the tomb of Tutankhamun. It was not until November 26, behind a second sealed doorway, that an even greater treasure trove of the tomb was discovered—the magic moment, so to speak, while making an archaeological discovery.
Upon visiting the Luxor Temple and the Howard Carter House, we think it's nice to head to the Valley of the Kings. The ancient burial site was the last place where the mummy of the last pharaoh was buried there was interred, that of Ramesses XI. Evidence indicates that nobles still made off with a good number of tombs in the area long after the Pharaonic period started to fall apart, so there are 63 known tombs in the valley.
On our Egypt shore excursions you are going to stop at the Ramesseum—a "Million Years Temple" because of its large area. It is an imposing temple that affords insight into the architectural and religious traditions by which the ancient Egyptians were elevated to grandeur.
Finally, this tour is completed with a visit to the Colossi of Memnon. The two giant statues were part of the enormous mortuary complex of Amenhotep III and are known for their huge size and ancient history. Still, this natural phenomenon, such as floods and earthquakes, has changed these statues. Parts of the mortuary complex were further used by the ancient Egyptians as building material supplied elsewhere.
