The Egyptian Museum:
The Egyptian Museum ranks among the largest museums in the world. It presently showcases more than 120 thousand archaeological pieces up for viewing, while the rest of the pieces go into storage. The museum consists of two major floors, the ground floor and the first floor. On the ground floor, one can find some coins and papyri. There are also some artifacts of the New Kingdom. On the first floor are artifacts of Dynasties 29 and 30, along with items from the tombs in the Valley of the Kings, especially the marvelous treasure of King Tutankhamon.
Saladin’s Citadel:
The Islamic spot most visited in Cairo is the Saladin Citadel. It was under the reign of Saladin in Egypt (1176–1183) that the citadel was constructed. Its main purpose was to defend Cairo, and thus it was built in a very strategic position. Mohamed Ali, in the nineteenth century, erected his well-known mosque here, now known as the Mohamed Ali Mosque.
Khan El Khalili:
Khan El Khalili is the biggest bazaar in the Middle East. It represents the market tradition that established Cairo as a major trade center. Khan was located in the middle of Cairo, and some commercial establishments were built nearby.
